Méfret Jean-Pax formed in Port-au-Prince in the 1960s, led by Jean-Pax Louis. They played traditional Haitian rhythms with melodies that caught on locally. In 1968 they released a song called "Véronica" that became widely known in Haiti. The band's 1968 debut album was self-titled and included that track.
Their music sometimes drew criticism from conservative parts of Haitian society. They put out a few more records like "Haïti: Chansons à Danser" in 1970 and another self-titled album in 1972. The group's output wasn't large, but "Véronica" remained their most recognizable piece.
