Meiofree

Meiofree formed in the early 2000s around Rio de Janeiro's Arpoador beach, with founding members Rodrigo Amarante, Marcelo Camelo, and Fred Ferreira. They started playing small venues and experimental spaces, developing a sound that drew from traditional Brazilian rhythms while incorporating modern elements. Their debut album 'Arpoador' came out in 2006, with the title track becoming one of their most recognizable songs.

Their music includes songs like 'O galo canta,' 'Enquanto você xinga,' and 'Jogo de Cintura.' Over time, they worked with other Brazilian musicians including Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil. Rodrigo Amarante's vocals and songwriting became a distinctive part of their sound, while Marcelo Camelo handled arrangements and Fred Ferreira provided percussion.

They released several more albums, including 'O Poeta' in 2008, 'Voces' in 2013, and 'Dois' in 2018. Their approach to blending different musical elements sometimes drew criticism for being too unconventional, but they maintained a consistent creative direction. The band's connection to Arpoador and Rio de Janeiro remained part of their identity throughout their recordings.
