Memo Boy started as a trio of childhood friends in Baltimore around the early 2010s. Michael Goldwasser, Micah Ewers, and Samuel Chase took the band's name from Goldwasser's old nickname. They put out their first EP, 'Just Listen,' in 2013.
Their 2015 album 'Sleepwalking' got more attention, partly because of the track 'Insomniac.' That song had a particular resonance with listeners, touching on themes of restlessness. The band's lineup changed later when Ewers left and Ethan Jones joined on bass.
They've kept releasing albums since then, including 'The Night Is Long' in 2018 and 'Mirrors' in 2021. Goldwasser's lyrics often deal directly with personal struggles, which has connected with some fans even as it's drawn occasional criticism.
