Merda Seca

Merda Seca came out of São Paulo's punk scene in the early 1980s with a sound that was loud, fast, and deliberately offensive. Their debut album in 1984 helped kickstart Brazilian punk, and two years later they released 'Foda-se os Bons Costumes,' a song that became a rallying cry for disaffected kids who were tired of being told how to behave.

Their lyrics took direct aim at social conventions, political hypocrisy, and organized religion, with song titles like 'Deus = Dinheiro' and 'Carnaval, Pra Que?' spelling out their targets. The band's live shows were chaotic, and their confrontational stance led to regular clashes with authorities and conservative groups throughout the 1980s.

After a hiatus in the early 1990s, they returned with 1997's 'Planetário,' which showed a more experimental side while keeping their abrasive core. They've continued playing and recording since, with albums like 2000's 'Pit Stop' mixing classic punk aggression with quieter, more reflective moments.
