A Chicago band that built a following through straightforward club shows and songs like 'Kiss Me, Kill Me'.
For a good sense of their sound, 'Kiss Me, Kill Me' and 'Goodbyes' frame it well. Straightforward pop-punk with a melodic hook and earnest delivery.
They came up in the late '90s Chicago scene with that first album 'Wasting Time,' but it was 'Destination Unknown' in 2001 that really connected. The single 'Kiss Me, Kill Me' had a catchy melody and earnest lyrics that stuck with people. Songs like 'Goodbyes' and 'Fucked Up Kid' from their catalog follow that same direct, melodic pop-punk vein.
Mest formed in Chicago in 1995 with Tony Lovato on vocals and guitar. They put out 'Wasting Time' in 1999, then 'Destination Unknown' in 2001 with 'Kiss Me, Kill Me' getting traction. Tony Lovato left for a couple years in the mid-2000s before returning for another album, 'Trash of the Titans,' in 2004.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
