His 1986 debut album 'Capoeira Que Tem Sangue Na Veia' became a touchstone in the genre, mixing traditional capoeira rhythms with his raw vocal delivery.
His lyrics often dealt with social issues and the experiences of capoeiristas. He kept working with a core group of musicians including Mestre Joao Pequeno and Mestre Boca Preta.
