Mestre Dos Magros

Mestre Dos Magros came out of Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s. They kept going anyway, and their songs like 'Alto Retrato' and 'Bugaloo' mixed hip-hop, samba, and electronic sounds in a way that didn't sound like much else at the time.

Their first album came out in 1997, and they put out a few more records after that, including 'O Último Pecado' in 2000 and 'A Divina Comédia' in 2003. The music could be raw and direct, but it also had a strange, haunting quality to it. They weren't trying to make things easy for listeners.

You can hear some of that in songs like 'Ciúme Caipira' and 'Eu Só Quero Te Dizer.' The band seemed to work from the edges, and their music reflected that position. They didn't stick around for a long mainstream run, but the records they left behind have a specific, stubborn energy.
