METZ formed in Toronto in 2008 as a trio with Alex Edkins on vocals and guitar, Chris Slorach on bass, and Hayden Menzies on drums. Their sound from the start was loud and direct, built around punk energy and noise textures that didn't fit neatly into mainstream categories. They put out their self-titled debut album in 2012, which established their raw, visceral approach with songs like 'Get Off' and 'Wasted'.
After that first record, they kept releasing albums at a steady pace: 'II' came out in 2013, followed by 'Atlas Vending' in 2015 and 'Strange Peace' in 2017. Their music stayed consistently intense, with tracks like 'Negative Space' and 'Rats' delivering the same pummeling force. They built a reputation through relentless live shows where the volume and energy were central.
Some listeners found their work too abrasive or dismissed it as just noise, but METZ didn't soften their approach. They maintained the same lineup and kept working within that loud, uncompromising space they'd carved out from the beginning.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
