Mexikanno formed in Mexico City around Alexandro Fernández, who had classical training but wanted to mix traditional Mexican styles with electronic music. The group includes Federico Méndez on bass, Juan Manuel Durán on drums, and Héctor Quintana on synths. They released their first album in 2013, simply called 'Mexikanno'.
Their 2016 album 'Horizon' featured a track of the same name with vocals from Will Nacar. Some listeners who preferred traditional Mexican music weren't sure about their electronic blend at first, but the band kept working with that combination. They put out another album called 'Alegría' in 2019.
Mexikanno has played festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury. Their sound pulls from mariachi and son jarocho rhythms, run through synthesizers and modern production.
