Mi Banda El Mexicano formed in Mazatlán, Sinaloa in 1973, with vocalists Germán Román and Casimiro Zamudio at the center. They started playing local shows and regional festivals, building a following before getting much attention from record labels.
Things changed in 1984 when they released the album 'La Morena.' The title track became a hit, and songs like 'Ramito De Violetas' and 'Qué Le Pasa A Lupita' followed. Their sound mixed traditional Mexican folk with Colombian cumbia rhythms, which people started calling cumbia ranchera.
The band's lineup shifted over time, though Román and Zamudio stayed through most of it. They kept recording through the late '80s and early '90s with albums like 'Sueño y Cariño' and 'Corazón Solitario.'
