Michael Collings came out of Akron, Ohio, and put out his debut album 'The Michael Collings Band' in 1981. The record had 'Fast Car' on it, a song about a young woman trying to get somewhere better that ended up connecting with a lot of people. He also recorded a version of 'Save The World / Video Games'.
His band included his brother Chris on keyboards, Terry Cotten on bass, and Gary Crozier on drums. They made a few more albums together in the early and mid-eighties, like 'Walk to Vienna' and 'The Trouble with Michael Collings'.
There were some rough patches along the way, including an arrest in 1985. But the song 'Fast Car' stuck around, and people still know it.
