Michael Gungor

Michael Gungor was born in 1976 in San Antonio, Texas, and grew up in a Christian household where music was part of daily life. He started playing guitar early and drew from folk, rock, and classical influences. In 2003, he formed the Michael Gungor Band with his wife Lisa, releasing albums that mixed folk textures with worship-oriented songwriting.

In 2010, Gungor released the album 'Beautiful Things,' whose title track became widely known both in Christian circles and beyond. Other songs like 'You Have Me' and 'The Earth is Yours' also found an audience through their melodic, contemplative style.

Gungor has been open about personal struggles, including depression and anxiety, which affected his work and outlook. His willingness to discuss faith and doubt, along with his views on social issues, sometimes sparked debate within Christian communities. He continues to write and perform, maintaining a focus on music that explores spiritual themes without sticking to conventional formulas.
