Midge Ure is a Scottish musician who first gained attention as the lead singer of Ultravox. He joined the band in 1979, replacing John Foxx, and their 1980 album 'Vienna' became a significant success. Before that, he had been playing in bands since his teenage years.
His version took a more minimal approach than the original, with his vocals giving it a different emotional quality.
He also worked on solo material, putting out his first album 'The Gift' in 1985. That record included 'If I Was,' which reached number one in the UK. Ure continued making music through the 1980s and 1990s, both with Ultravox and on his own.
