Mikawa Kenichi was born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1946. He moved to Tokyo after high school and started working in the music business as an apprentice.

His debut single "Sasoriza no Onna" came out in 1970.

In 1977 he was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession, which affected his career for a time. He recorded other songs like "Yuzuki" and "Namida no Kawa," and in 1980 he tried a different sound with "Daydream Believer."
