A vehicle for Mike Rutherford's songwriting and Paul Carrack's soulful voice, best known for 'The Living Years.'
If you only know one thing, it's 'The Living Years.' For the earlier sound, check out 'All I Need Is A Miracle.'
The band gave us 'All I Need Is A Miracle' in 1985, then followed it up with 'The Living Years' three years later. That second song became one of those radio staples that just stuck around, a polished piece of adult contemporary rock that people still know the words to. It's the main reason the name Mike & The Mechanics means anything outside of Genesis fan circles.
It started as a side project for Mike Rutherford in 1985, with vocalists Paul Young and Paul Carrack. After Young's death in 2000, they kept going with different singers, putting out albums like 'Word of Mouth' and 'Rewired' over the years.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
