Mikel Elizaga formed the band Amodioa in 1996 in his hometown of Urretxu. The band's name means "Love" in Basque, which also became the title of their debut album in 2000. That first record established their sound, built around Elizaga's vocals and traditional Basque melodies.
Amodioa released several albums over the following years, including "Argi" in 2004, "Egunero" in 2008, and "Denbora" in 2012. The band's lineup has included guitarist Mikel Gaztañaga, bassist Koldo Untzeta, and drummer Mikel Azkue. They've occasionally worked with other artists like Basque folk singer Maite Itoiz.
In 2015, Elizaga faced criticism for allegedly borrowing from a traditional Basque song without proper attribution. He explained he was modernizing the material rather than copying it directly. The band's music continues to draw from Basque language and traditions while incorporating various contemporary elements.
