Mikel Laboa was born in 1934 in Donostia-San Sebastián in the Basque Country. In the 1960s, he became part of the Ez Dok Amairu movement, a collective of Basque artists working to revive their culture. His song 'Txoria Txori' came out in 1969 and became something of an anthem, expressing a longing for freedom that resonated with many Basques.
Laboa's lyrics sometimes challenged the political situation, which led to clashes with the Francoist regime. His discography includes albums like 'Lauaxeta' from 1966, 'Bat-Hiru' from 1969, and 'Haika Mutil' from 1974.
He worked with lyricist Xabier Lete and arranger Joseba Tapia, among others. Other songs of his include 'Agonia - Hilzoria', 'Baga, Biga, Higa', and 'Izarren Hautsa'.
