Editor's note

Mikeli Hub's Basque indie rock with a legal fight

A Vitoria-Gasteiz band that weathered lineup changes and label disputes to keep making music.

If you're checking them out, 'Aos 17' and 'Silêncio' give you a good sense of their sound. The 'Imaginary Stories' EP is where they really started to click.

They're one of those regional indie acts that built a following the hard way, playing festivals like Primavera Sound while dealing with the kind of label headaches that break smaller bands. The song 'Aos 17' shows their melodic side, but the whole 'Imaginary Stories' EP from 2019 has that scrappy energy they're known for. They kept going even after guitarist Ion Bengoa left in 2020.

They formed in 2015 in Vitoria-Gasteiz with Mikel Urdangarin on vocals and guitar. After their 2019 debut EP 'Imaginary Stories', they replaced guitarist Ion Bengoa with Xabi Larrea and sorted out a legal dispute with their former label.

Mikeli Hub formed in 2015 in Vitoria-Gasteiz with Mikel Urdangarin on vocals and guitar, Jon Ugart on bass, Unai Lazkano on drums, and Jon Bengoa on keyboards. They put out their debut EP 'Imaginary Stories' in 2019, which included the track 'A Message.'

That EP got them a spot at Primavera Sound Festival. In 2020, guitarist Ion Bengoa left and was replaced by multi-instrumentalist Xabi Larrea. Around the same time, the band had a legal dispute with their former label over releasing new music, which they eventually resolved.
