Mike's Dead came out of Chicago in the early 2010s. The band's name was a nod to Mike Watt of The Minutemen, which gave a hint about where they were coming from. Their first album, 'Energy,' came out on Tooth and Nail Records in 2012, and the title track became a calling card. The lineup included Michael Shea on vocals, Chris Crisci on guitar, Matt Mottram on bass, and Dan O'Connell on drums.
They put out a few more records after that, like 'Welcome to the Circus' in 2014 and 'The Great Disconnect' in 2017. The music had a lot of drive, mixing rock with electronic touches. Another song people know is 'We've Lost Touch.' They took a break for a bit and came back with an album called 'Rebirth' in 2020.
Their shows were known for being pretty intense. Some of the lyrics and the live energy stirred things up now and then, with a bit of pushback here and there about the content. They kept at it, though, playing the kind of music they wanted to make.
