Archive material and source history

Milestones came together in Philadelphia in 1996, with Daniel Lanois on vocals and guitar, Matt Chamberlain on drums, Oliver Kraus on bass, and David Immerglück on guitar. They put out their first album, 'A Million Miles Away,' in 2001. The band's sound was a kind of atmospheric alternative rock that didn't fit neatly into categories, which made some labels hesitant early on.

Their song 'Counting Cars' came out in 2003 and became their most recognizable track. It had a haunting melody and introspective lyrics that connected with listeners, and the music video was directed by Michel Gondry. Other songs from their catalog include 'Against The World,' 'BitterSweetHeart,' and 'Call Me Disaster.'

After 'Counting Cars,' they released albums like 'Red Piano' in 2006 and 'The Calm Before the Storm' in 2009. Their work tended toward cinematic soundscapes and emotional directness, without much concern for commercial formulas. They kept recording into the 2010s with 'Wanderlust' in 2013.
