Milinários da Zona Sul came together in Rio de Janeiro's Zona Sul neighborhood. They were led by vocalist Luiz Carlos da Vila and included musicians like Sérgio Mattos on guitar and vocals, Acyr Marques on cavaquinho, and Beto Se. They started playing in local bars and small venues before signing with the RGE record label.
Their debut album came out in 1984. The following year, they wrote "Samba Enredo 1985" for the Unidos da Tijuca samba school. That song became their most recognizable work.
They released several albums through the late 1980s, including Milinários da Zona Sul Vol. 3 in 1986 and a live album in 1987. Their catalog also includes A Música do Milênio from 1999.
