Background notes

Archive material and source history

Milton Vilela was born in 1951 in Abre Campo, a rural town in Minas Gerais. He started writing and performing songs early, drawing from the traditional sounds around him. In 1978, he released "Teco-teco," a song about a flying machine that became a national hit in Brazil.

That song's success led to several albums through the 1980s and 1990s, including "Milton Vilela" in 1981 and "O PaĆs dos Brinquedos" in 1983. His music was often described as simple and heartfelt, with another well-known track being "A Banca do Guarda."

Vilela died in 2008. His songs, particularly "Teco-teco," continue to be played in Brazil.
