Mingo Fishtrap came together in Bellingham, Washington, with Andrew Reiland on vocals and guitar, Laura Veirs on vocals and violin, Erik Friend on drums, and Rob Fisk on bass. They put out their first album, Let the Games Begin, in 1995, and that song became one people remembered. The band's sound mixed folk with other things, which didn't always sit right with some listeners at first.
They kept making records through the 90s and 2000s, like The Art of Departure in 1997 and Swimming with the Leviathan in 2003. Jenny Scheinman played violin with them for a while before Celeste Krenz took over that spot. Their music had a certain energy live that helped them find their audience despite the early friction.
Mingo Fishtrap released albums fairly steadily, with There Will Be No Intermission arriving in 2015.
