Ministério Geração 7 OM formed in 1989 within the Igreja Vitória em Cristo in Rio de Janeiro, a church led by Pastor Silas Malafaia. Their music came out of the charismatic church movement that had been growing in Brazil since the 1970s.
Their 1996 album 'Cante Com Alegria' gave them a breakthrough, with the title track becoming widely popular. Other songs like 'Em Pedaços' and 'Fala Comigo' also became staples in their catalog. Their sound, which incorporated contemporary instruments, drew some criticism from more traditional church circles at the time.
They continued releasing albums into the 2000s, including 'Geração de Vencedores' in 2001 and 'Nação Santa' in 2005. Pastor Silas Malafaia remained involved with the group as a vocalist.
