Ministério Grão de Mostarda started as a gospel band in a church in Salvador, Bahia. They took their name from the biblical parable of the mustard seed. Their 1986 album 'Salmo 133' became a hit, with the title track turning into a church staple.

Antonio Cirilo sang lead vocals, with Pedro Braconnot on bass, Jailson Almeida on guitar, and Márcio Pereira on drums. Other songs like 'Tu És o Meu Deus Forte' and 'Digno És' became part of their catalog. They worked with Brazilian musicians Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil at different points.

They put out albums including 'Direção,' 'Tua Presença,' and 'O Valor da Vida.' Their music drew some criticism from religious circles about theology and commercial sound, but they kept recording. Cirilo remained the central figure as they continued.
