Mirage

Mirage formed in 1980 in New York with vocalist Emily Strange, guitarist Ethan Sky, bassist David Moon, and drummer Alex Rain. They started playing small clubs with what people called an ethereal sound, though it took a few years for that to catch on beyond their local following.

Their debut album 'Whispers in the Wind' came out in 1985 and got them a record deal. Two years later, they released 'Air,' which became their most recognizable song. It had Strange's vocals floating over a sparse arrangement that felt both haunting and open.

After 'Air,' they put out albums like 'Echoes of Eternity' in 1989 and 'Celestial Embrace' in 1992. Other songs from that period, like 'Drain' and 'Remembrance,' kept working with similar atmospheric textures without repeating the same formula exactly.
