Miras Robert

Miras Robert came up in Avignon, where he grew up hearing traditional Provençal music. He later mixed those sounds with folk and gospel, writing songs that often dealt with faith. One of his best-known tracks is 'Jésus est né en Provence,' which imagines Jesus as a shepherd from the region. That song drew some criticism from religious authorities who found the idea unorthodox.

He also recorded 'Parle-moi maman,' another song that stayed close to his roots. His music never really aimed for the mainstream, sticking instead to a blend of local tradition and personal belief. He kept working in Provence, putting out albums that found an audience there without much fuss.
