Mis Amigos Muertos formed in 1983 with Nacho Campillo on vocals and guitar, Ricardo Cantera on bass, Pascual Saura on drums, and Enrique Villarreal on guitar. They worked in a space between post-punk, new wave, and Spanish folk. Their song 'Caramelos' came out in 1985 and became their most recognizable track, a slow, haunting piece about love and loss.
Campillo was the only member who stayed through all the lineup changes. Other musicians came through, like violinist Miguel Indurain and saxophonist Jose Alberto Escobar, who brought different textures to the band's generally somber sound. They put out albums like 'Sus Canciones' in 1984, 'Una Historia de Amor' in 1986, and 'La Caja de Pandora' in 1987.
Mis Amigos Muertos broke up in 1993. 'Caramelos' is still the song people know them for.
