They released their debut album 'Interferência' in 1985, which blended rock with electronics and traditional Portuguese music.
Their 1987 single 'Zé Ruela' became a national hit in Portugal, topping charts with its catchy melody and lyrics about a fictional vagrant's misadventures in Porto. The song resonated widely and became something of a cultural phenomenon, though the band's provocative style sometimes drew criticism from conservative quarters.
After 'Zé Ruela,' Mister Shock continued recording through the late 1980s and 1990s with albums like 'Visões' and 'O Olho do Ciclone.' Their lineup changed over time, with Rui Magalhães eventually replacing Gonçalves on bass and Fernando Tavares joining on keyboards.
