Mistreat formed in Moscow in 1989, led by Sergey "Spider" Troitsky. Their debut album 'Njet Molotoff' came out in 1991, with the title track becoming an anthem during the Soviet Union's collapse. The band's raw lyrics targeted the establishment from the start.
In 1992, bassist Konstantin "Kostya" Smirnov died in a car accident, which led to a hiatus.
Mistreat returned in the late 1990s and kept provoking authorities. Their 2002 album 'Krestnyy Khod' drew criticism from religious groups and legal challenges. Songs like 'Backstreet' and 'Battle Cry' continued their confrontational style.
