Mobius Band formed in 1972 with John Anderson on guitar and vocals, David Rhodes on bass, Richard Storey on keyboards, and Iain Clark on drums. Their debut album 'The Eternal Briefcase' came out in 1974, followed by 'The Illusionist' in 1976. That second album included 'Epitaph,' a song that became their most recognized track.
'Epitaph' has a haunting melody and lyrics about love and loss that connected with listeners. The band's other songs like 'City Vs. Country' and 'Philadelphia' showed their range beyond progressive rock conventions. They released several more albums including 'Mislaid' in 1977 and 'Survivors' in 1980.
Rhodes and Storey left the band in the late 1970s, leaving Anderson and Clark to continue. The group faced internal tensions that affected their momentum, though they kept performing. Their 1975 live album 'Mobius Band Live' captured their early sound before the lineup changes.
