Mocambo formed in 2006 in Salvador, Bahia, with Magary Lord on vocals, Nino Brown on percussion, and DJ Jorjão producing. Their debut album came out in 2009, mixing Afro-Brazilian rhythms with electronic beats. They put out a live recording from Salvador's Pelourinho district in 2012.
In 2017, their album 'A Noite Mais Linda do Mundo' included the track 'Você Nem Sabe', which drew some criticism over cultural appropriation questions. The band responded by talking about their respect for Brazilian traditions. They released another album called 'Canibália' in 2021.
Their songs like 'A Eterna Gafieira' and 'E Daí?' show their style of blending percussive grooves with contemporary production. The music doesn't fit neatly into traditional or modern categories, which has been part of their story from the beginning.
