Moist

Moist formed in Vancouver in 1994 with Mark Makoway on vocals, David Usher on guitar and vocals, Kevin Young on guitar, Jeff Pearce on bass, and Paul Wilcox on drums. Their debut album 'Silver' came out in 1996, and the single 'Push' did well on Canadian charts. The band's sound had a certain atmospheric quality from the start, with Makoway's voice floating over layered guitars.

Their second album 'Creature' included the song 'Alive,' which became their most recognizable track. It had that mix of drifting melody and earnest delivery that connected with listeners. Other songs from that period like 'Believe Me' and 'Baby Skin Tattoo' worked in a similar space, moody but accessible alternative rock.

David Usher left the band in 1999, which changed their dynamic. They kept going with different guitarists and put out 'Mercedes 5 and Dime' in 2000, which tried some electronic touches. The band's activity slowed after that, though their earlier material, especially 'Alive,' still gets played on Canadian rock radio.
