Monte Vênnus formed in Santos, São Paulo in 2003. They released a self-titled debut EP in 2006, and their first album came out in 2008. That album was called 'By the Way', which is also the name of one of their songs.
Their music has been described as alternative rock with pop and psychedelic elements. They've also worked with Brazilian rhythms and experimented with electronica. Another track people know is 'Going Under'.
In 2008, after 'By the Way' became popular, there were accusations that the melody was taken from a French song. The band denied this, but it led to legal issues. They kept making music through that period, and later albums like 'Sputnik' showed them trying different approaches.
