Montecristo formed in Buenos Aires in the mid-1990s with vocalist Patricio Giménez, guitarist Javier Calamaro, and bassist Hugo Lobo. They started playing romantic ballads, and their debut album came out in 1999. The single 'Por Tu Amor' from that record caught on in Argentina and helped establish them.
After drummer Carlos Rodatti left in 2002, Diego Tombolini joined. The band kept recording through some internal friction, putting out albums like 'Secretos' and 'El Tiempo Que Nos Queda.' Their songs, including 'Y Rompiste Mi Corazón' and 'Mendigo de Amor,' stayed rooted in romantic themes while they worked with different sounds.
