Archive material and source history
Monterrey e Monteirinho were a Portuguese duo from Paredes, active in the 1970s. They were José Monterrey and Hélder Monteirinho, with Monterrey handling vocals and guitar while Monteirinho worked as guitarist, composer, and producer. Their 1977 album 'Gaivota Triste' gave them their most recognizable song, which became something of a standard in Portugal.
They released several albums during that decade, including their self-titled debut in 1974, 'A Ausência' in 1975, and 'A Noite' in 1979. Their material often leaned toward melancholic ballads, with songs like 'Copo Duplo de Solidão' and 'Vou Dormir Com A Saudade' reflecting that tone. José Monterrey died in 2018.
