Moony formed in 1998 as a Romanian trio with Marius Moga, Cristi Stan, and Octavian Boldura. Their 2000 single 'I Don't Know Why' became an international pop hit that got heavy radio and club play. The song's success put them on the map quickly.
After Boldura left in 2004, Moga and Stan continued as a duo. They released 'Dove (I'll Be Loving You)' among other singles, working with trance and progressive house elements alongside their pop foundation. Their sound shifted some over those years.
They put out five studio albums between 2001 and the late 2000s, including 'Moony: The Album' and 'Moony: New Century.' A 2010 lawsuit over the rights to 'I Don't Know Why' dragged on for several years. The group has also faced criticism for using samples from other artists' work without clear attribution.
