Morango Encantado formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1987 with vocalist Luciana Souza, guitarists Carlinhos Brown and Ninha, bassist Dadi, and percussionist Carlinhos Conceição. Their early years involved financial struggles, but they kept playing. Their debut album came out in 1990, followed by others like 'Axé Bahia' in 1992 and 'Liberdade' in 1997.
Their song 'Caba Nó Cego' from 1992 became their most recognized track. It faced some censorship in places over lyrical content, but that didn't slow the band down much. Other songs like 'Fusão', 'Quero Saber', 'Seu Preço', and 'Solidão' also became part of their set.
They worked within what became known as the Axé genre, mixing Afro-Brazilian rhythms with popular music forms. The band's music reached listeners outside Brazil, leading to festival appearances abroad.
