Mosiah Roots formed in 2006 in Aracaju, Sergipe, with vocalist Erivaldo de Jesus, bassist André Marinho, drummer Ric Sena, and guitarist Luan Carvalho. Their sound mixed reggae and roots music with Brazilian rhythms, which found an audience fairly quickly.
Their 2009 song "Primeiro Passo" became their most recognizable track, followed by others like "Dor e Desejo" and "Alma Indomável." They released albums including Comunidade in 2011, Novo Amanhã in 2014, and Resistência in 2020.
In 2011, the band dealt with plagiarism accusations from another musician, which led to legal issues before they were cleared. They've worked with artists like Chico César and Gilberto Gil, and have played shows across Brazil and internationally.
