Moskito

Moskito came out of Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s with a sound that mixed samba, funk, and rock. Their first album, 'Por Onde Você Anda?', arrived in 1993. The track 'Deixa Falar' became a particular touchstone, its rhythms and lyrics connecting with listeners who felt outside the mainstream.

The band was Rodrigo Amarante on vocals and guitar, Márcio Arantes on drums, and Juliano Holanda on bass. They kept putting out records through the 90s and 2000s, like 'Energia do Som' and 'A Revolta dos Dândis'. Their music had a direct, danceable energy, and they weren't shy about what they had to say, which sometimes got them into trouble with authorities. They worked through that period without much compromise, releasing 'Samba Combate' as late as 2010.
