Mosquetti Júlio

Mosquetti Júlio came out of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, with a song named after the city that became something of a local anthem. The track "Belo Horizonte" from their 2005 debut album seemed to catch the particular mood of the place, a mix of longing and affection that resonated with people there.

They worked with a lineup that included Márcio Trombone on trombone and arrangements, Fernando Pinguim on bass, Henrique Alves on guitar, and Thiago Marques on drums. Over the next decade they put out albums like "Tudo Está Bem" in 2008 and "Sintonia" in 2013, along with a live recording from Circo Voador. Another song, "Não É Pecado Amar," also found an audience.

Their sound pulled from Brazilian traditions, jazz, and rock, which sometimes drew criticism from purists who preferred things kept separate. In 2015 they released a song that touched on political corruption, which stirred up some debate among listeners. They kept making music through 2016's "Memórias," which looked back at some older material.
