Mouth Music formed in Ireland in 1997 as a four-person a cappella group. The members are Cormac Byrne, Conor Byrne, Aidan Coffey, and Eoghan Desmond. They work with traditional Irish melodies and harmonies, using their voices to create percussive elements and polyphony without instruments.
Their first album came out in 1999, simply called 'Mouth Music.' They've put out five more since then, including 'The Sound of Ourselves' in 2001 and 'The Breath of Life' in 2017. Their recordings include songs like 'S Muladach Mi' and 'Chi Mi Na Morbheanna,' which draw from Gaelic tradition.
Cormac Byrne handles arrangements and direction, while his brother Conor provides a lower vocal part. Aidan Coffey focuses on rhythmic vocal percussion, and Eoghan Desmond joined later as the fourth voice. They perform live, with a concert album released in 2012.
