Mouth of the Architect formed in Oklahoma City in 2003, with David Edwardson on vocals, Chuck Roberts on guitar, Greg Johnson on bass, and David Hestand on drums. Their sound pulled from progressive rock, noise, and avant-garde metal, landing them a cult following without much mainstream fuss. Their debut album, 'Time and Pressure,' came out in 2005 and got some critical notice for its angular riffs and Edwardson's haunted delivery.
That record led to Johnson leaving the band. They kept going, releasing 'Quietly' in 2012, but went on an indefinite hiatus not long after.
Mouth of the Architect came back together in 2018 with a new bassist, John Cooney, and put out their fourth album, 'A Beautiful Corpse.' That track, along with others like 'A Vivid Chaos' and 'Buried Hopes,' shows they haven't smoothed out the dissonance that defined them from the start.
