Mr Jukes

Mr Jukes is the solo project of Jack Steadman, who was previously the frontman of the indie rock band Bombay Bicycle Club. After that band went on hiatus in 2016, Steadman started making music under the Mr Jukes name, drawing more from soul and jazz than his earlier work. His first album came out in 2018, followed by another called 'God First' in 2020.

Steadman often works with other vocalists on his tracks. Songs like 'Someone New' feature Elli Ingram, while 'Angels / Your Love' includes Bj The Chicago Kid. The music tends to have warm, layered arrangements with horns and keyboards, leaning into a classic soul and funk feel rather than the guitar-driven indie of his previous band.

There isn't a fixed band lineup for Mr Jukes. Steadman brings in different musicians as needed, which gives the project a flexible, collaborative sound. The recordings have a live, organic quality, with room for instrumental solos and vocal improvisation.
