Mugo formed in the late 2000s around vocalist Ethan James and guitarist Oliver Hayes, later adding bassist Emily Carter and drummer Mark Smith. Their debut EP 'Echoes of the Unseen' came out in 2012, followed by the album 'Dreaming Awake' which included the title track that became something of an anthem for listeners.

Ethan James's personal struggles with depression and addiction informed the band's lyrics, giving them a raw quality.

After that break, the band returned to recording and performing. Songs like 'Deepest Desire' and 'Get Up And Fight' continued their pattern of emotionally direct indie rock.
