Murder By Death formed in Bloomington, Indiana in 2000, with Adam Turla on vocals and guitar, Sarah Balliet on cello and vocals, and Vincent Veloso on bass. Their first album, "Like the Exorcist, But More Breakdancing," came out in 2002. They followed it with "Who Will Survive, and What Will Be Left of Them?" in 2003, which leaned into post-punk and gothic sounds.
Later albums like "Red of Tooth and Claw" and "Good Morning, Magpie" showed the band working with folk-rock and more experimental arrangements. Songs like "A Second Opinion" and "'52 Ford" are part of their catalog. In 2016, former guitarist Scottie White left the band after allegations of misconduct surfaced.
