The Murder City Devils formed in Seattle in 1995 with Spencer Moody on vocals, Dann Gallucci on guitar, Mike Bones on bass, and Randy Fitzgerald on drums. Their debut album 'Empty Bottles, Broken Hearts' came out in 1997, and they followed it with 'In Name and Blood' in 2000. They recorded a few more albums before stopping around 2005.
Their songs like 'Dead By Christmas' and 'Idle Hands' had a rough, direct sound that mixed punk energy with some bluesy undertones. Spencer Moody's delivery gave their music an urgent, sometimes desperate quality that felt honest rather than polished.
Gallucci left the band in 1998, and Coady Willis joined on guitar for a few years. They kept playing shows around Seattle, building a reputation for intense live performances that matched the raw feel of their recordings. The band's lineup shifted some more over time, with Ben London and Mark Pickerel joining later on.
They put out albums like 'Sunless' and 'Thelema' in the early 2000s, and a live recording from the Crocodile Cafe came out in 2006. Their music stayed grounded in that Seattle sound without trying to smooth out its edges.
