Murs

Murs started out in the late 1990s as part of the Los Angeles trio Living Legends, which had an experimental, socially conscious style. He went solo in 2002 and built a reputation in underground hip-hop. In 2006, his album 'Murs for President' got wider attention and established him as a serious lyricist, though his politically charged verses sometimes drew criticism.

His discography includes albums like 'Murs 3:16: The 9th Edition' from 2008, 'Murray's Revenge' from 2016, and 'A Strange Journey Into The Peaceable Kingdom' from 2021. He's worked with producers and artists such as 9th Wonder, Fashawn, Slug from Atmosphere, and DJ Shadow. Songs like 'Bts' and 'Lookin' Fly (feat. will.i.am)' show his range.

Beyond recording, Murs founded the independent label Def Jux and organized the Paid Dues festival to showcase other hip-hop artists. His writing has moved from raw beginnings to more introspective and philosophical territory over time, but he keeps a grounded, conversational approach in tracks like 'The Lick' and '3:16'.
