Muse Maya

Muse Maya is a musical project centered around Maya Arulpragasam, who performs as M.I.A., with producer Dan Carey and drummer Steve Dub. Their debut album 'Labirinto' came out in 2005, mixing electronic production with rock elements and world music textures. The song 'Labirinto' from that album gives a sense of their early sound, layered, percussive, and slightly off-kilter.

Their 2007 album 'Kala' continued in this vein, while tracks like 'Sauce' and the collaboration 'Sei Partir (part. Baco Exu do Blues)' show how their music has evolved while keeping that rhythmic, genre-blurring approach. The production, handled largely by Dan Carey, tends to be dense and atmospheric, with Steve Dub's drumming providing a live, energetic foundation.

They've never fit neatly into one category, which has sometimes made them hard for the industry to pin down. But that same refusal to stick to a formula has given their work a distinct character, less about making big statements than about building specific, immersive sonic spaces.
