Mussum

Mussum was a Brazilian band fronted by Antônio Carlos Bernardes Gomes, who went by the same name. They formed in the early 1970s with friends Renato Montanha and Luiz Carlos dos Santos. Their big break came in 1973 with the song "A Vizinha (Pega Ela Peru)," which became a national hit despite some radio stations banning it for suggestive lyrics.

The band's music mixed samba with funk and pop elements, and their lyrics often played with double meanings and everyday language. Along with "A Vizinha," songs like "É Ouro Só" and "Água Benta" showed their knack for catchy rhythms with a humorous edge. They released albums including "Mussum e a Turma do Salto Alto" in 1973 and "Mussum É o Que Há" the following year.

Antônio Carlos Bernardes Gomes died in 1981 at age 38. The band's recordings from the 1970s, particularly "A Vizinha," remain familiar to many Brazilian listeners who grew up with that era's music.
